What’s different about Vismo 2
Vismo Incident Management System [VIMS] allows security teams to identify Vismo 2 users – typically at-risk employees or other individuals – quickly either before an incident poses a threat or is a direct threat to them. After automatically locating the users, VIMS prompts the teams to immediately help them with assigned and definable tasks.
Also new is Vismo Mass Notification Service, VMNS, a feature that can be used with VIMS. VMNS allows Vismo 2 users to be asked for their safety status via multiple communication methods including text, email, text to voice and in-app.
All responses are collated by defined severity levels. Tasks are then automatically assigned to security staff.
Dashboards
Another introduction to Vismo 2 is the ability for a user organisation’s security team to create individual dashboards and assign personnel to them where appropriate. For example, a company or NGO security team can create a dashboard for the US or UK, Europe, Middle East or Far East, etc, and see where personnel are located in one or more of them. Vismo 2 also pulls live incident feeds into the system, where security teams can view and analyse them to see if app users are in possible or real danger and if they need help.
Advanced mapping options
Vismo 2 also introduces advanced mapping options, which allow the teams to view different map, for example: satellite view, terrain and open street view. Map layering allows team members to layer points of interest such as severe weather, airport delays and terrorism.
The layering feature also enables teams to see where app users are and contact them when live incident feeds come through. This feature works alongside the geo-fencing capability found in the original Vismo App.
Key advantage

FIFA World Cup 2018 – addressing security concerns in Russia: Vismo announces its Mass Notification Service (VMNS), designed to keep Vismo App users safer by verifying their location and status through the use of multi-communication platforms – and enabling direct help for users during the World Cup

Vismo – global tracking specialist and multiple winner of ASIS Accolades for enhancements to the Vismo App – has launched its Mass Notification Service “VismoMessaging”, designed to keep app users safer at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia [14th June – 15th July 2018] and elsewhere globally.
VismoMessaging achieves this by verifying users’ location and safety status via the app and through the use of multi-communication platforms – SMS, email, voice, in-app push notification and text-to-voice automated phone calls.
App users can then be given safety advice, while security teams liaise with emergency and rescue services as necessary.
Colin Dale, VP Business Development, Vismo, says “Although Vismo has designed VismoMessaging for use anywhere globally, our main focus at present is security during the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, where Vismo has had an office since 2013. The World Cup is proving to be a major concern for corporate event sponsors, VIP attendees, the media companies providing coverage of the event, and football teams.
“With matches being spread across 11 widely dispersed host cities, security is a very real concern, as highlighted on a UK government website, where the spiking of drinks leading to robbery, violence and abuse is one concern. Another UK government website highlights the risk of terrorist incidents in Russia in relation to a global event such as the World Cup.”
Dale continues, “The threat of terrorism is high following attacks in recent years resulting in several deaths in the St Petersburg Metro and 37 deaths at Domodedovo International Airport in Moscow.
“Airlines have been targeted with the downing of a flight from Sharm el Sheik to St Petersburg in October 2015, which was caused by an explosive device on board the plane, according to Russian authorities.”

Dale points out, “All this presents significant difficulty for security teams locating individuals and providing immediate assistance and advice should an incident occur.”
The Vismo App was used successfully to monitor teams, coaching staff, media organisations and corporate VIPs at similar events, such as the London 2012 Olympics and at the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil, as well as helping companies and NGOs in high risk areas of the world. What Vismo can do at the World Cup
* Geo-fence. This feature allows Vismo account administrators to create geo-fences, which can be configured to notify key security personnel when Vismo App users move in or out of a stadium or area designated as high risk, and is an invaluable aide to managing security risks.
* Locate individuals with great accuracy. In the event of an incident occurring at one of the venues, security teams may instantly locate all app users in the affected area and can confirm their situation [e.g. safe, in danger, being held by a third party] through the use of multi-communication platforms; SMS, email, in-app push notification and text-to-voice automated phone calls.
* Enable the transmission of real time audio and video streams from the app user’s phone to a security team whenever the app’s panic button is pressed – and two-way communication by SMS, email and voice between the user and team. In that communication, advice can be given to the user on how to reduce risk, and the user can be told if necessary that direct help, including evacuation or other form of rescue if necessary, is at hand.
* Allow app users to easily confirm responses to definable questions using preconfigured statement answers, with multimodal transmission enabling ease of communication. This is a security step to ensure the person in contact with a security team is the genuine, registered app user.
VismoMessaging uses an easy-to-navigate, email-like format to enable administrators to rapidly identify Vismo App users en masse, in groups or individually, and send them messages and receive responses that may be critical in a troublesome situation.
Vismo has the ability to filter users whose device is below a specified battery level threshold. The advantage of the filter is that it highlights those app users who might need a prompt by security teams to charge their phone as soon as possible to prevent any loss of service involving the app and VismoMessaging.

Crisis management

Vismo Global Tracking App now available on Windows 10 smartphones

Users in cities and elsewhere can use the app to help them avoid terrorist or other incidents or gain safety if they’re caught up in them
September 16th 2016. York. Vismo Tracking Solutions has announced that the Vismo Global Tracking App is now available on Windows 10 phones, complementing the app’s availability on android smartphones, BlackBerries, the iPhone and iPad and selected satellite phones. The app is used by consumers as well as selected employees of many FTSE 100 and Fortune 500 companies and several UN agencies – and was on the phones of some 90 users in Paris on the day when the Charlie Hebdo offices were attacked in 2015.
Although none were in the immediate vicinity of the incident, all were given advice on how to stay safe.
The app – available for Windows 10 phone users in the Windows Store – uses GPS and other technologies to provide the best location service tracking updates, even indoors. The company’s patented technology, which significantly reduces battery drain and boosts location accuracy, works globally on GSM, 3G, WCDMA and CDMA networks.
How does the app work?
“One of the most reassuring features of the app is the panic button it creates on users’ phones. Users can also put the button on their Apple Watch to remotely activate the app on their iPhone,” says Colin Dale, Business Development Director, Vismo. “Activating the button sends an immediate alert to a secure central monitoring website.”
The moment an alert is received, the website initiates SMS and email alerts to defined recipients, including emergency and other services, containing details of the app user and their location, allowing the services to offer advice on the situation they face. While this is happening, the app triggers a covert audio recording on the user’s phone, which sends it to the website, where personnel listen to and analyse it and give any information gleaned from it to the emergency and other services.
If users’ panic buttons haven’t been activated and there is an incident in an area they’re in, they are sent alerts telling them what is happening and what to do in order to minimise risk to them. Further alerts give instructions about rescue – and any planned evacuation of an area – if that is required.
The Vismo app uses real time geo-fencing capabilities – including virtual “fences” around a real-world geographic area such as a city or high risk region. The app alerts users via SMS and email when they move into high risk areas or leave safe zones. Geo-fencing helps users avoid risk and be prepared for it.

Vismo app tracks expeditions in South America and the Himalayas

April 27th 2016. York. People tracking apps from Vismo Tracking Solutions were used on used on two recently completed expeditions – Levison Wood Walking the Himalayas, and The Amazon River Run – to show their support teams where they were, allow visitors to the website of the Amazon expedition to track progress at any time and enable Channel Four to identify Wood’s location 24/7.
Both expeditions started in 2015 and employed a combination of the Vismo app on their smartphones and the RockSTAR Satellite Tracker for those areas where there was no mobile phone coverage.
It’s not the first time Vismo has sponsored and supported expeditions this way. In December 2013, British explorer and former parachute regiment officer Levison Wood started his nine month, 4,250 mile expedition along the Nile, through six countries, from its source to its delta in Egypt, with the Vismo app on his mobile phone.
Last year he set out from Afghanistan on a 1700 mile – or four million steps – trek along some of the most stunning but inhospitable terrain on the planet, in the Himalayas, again supported by Vismo.

Vismo awarded patent for GPS tracking technology

February 25th 2016. York, UK. Vismo, the Global Tracking Solutions specialist, has been awarded a patent for its technology for GPS tracking on mobile devices. The company previously had a patent pending and has now secured a full patent for its unique operation.
The awarded patent, GB2470376, specifically covers the design behind the algorithms and innovative operations of the Vismo tracking software to optimise location accuracy with minimal battery drain.
The algorithms use a combination of metrics from the phone such as speed, GPS, network information and cell tower locations to determine optimal accuracy for locations from the device, without incurring the large battery drain usually typical of GPS tracking applications.
Fundamental to the approach is how Vismo utilizes the functionality of mobile devices, minimising the use of navigational sensors by placing them into hibernation between pre-determined intervals and using environmental information to quickly locate a device without lengthy GPS warm-up periods. Ultimately, this produces a chronological “trail” following a user’s location point-by-point on a map.

Vismo’s panic alert button on the Apple Watch can now be operated remotely without having to key in a security code

October 2nd 2015. Vismo has enhanced its people tracking app [available on the Apple Store for iOS7 and iOS8] for the Apple Watch by enabling users to remotely operate the panic alert button without having to key in their security code.
The app is purchased by individuals – and by businesses as a “duty of care” precaution for staff working in hazardous or high risk environments, ranging from potentially dangerous work environments to areas where civil wars or terrorist incidents pose a threat to life and limb, and wherever kidnapping is a possibility.
“Users have been asking for this improvement because it can save valuable time. We have responded,” says Colin Dale, Business Development Director, Vismo Global Tracking Solutions. “Remote operation overcomes the issues of having to unlock the device to activate the panic button or accidentally setting off false alarms when using a ‘shake to panic’ type of activation.”
Dale adds, “Vismo will continue to offer its security code enabled ‘standalone’ panic button for those users who keep their Panerei or Rolex on their wrist. We always recommend users install that button in the dock of their iPhone for ease of access.”
The Vismo app also works on the iPad/iPhone as well as BlackBerry 7 and BlackBerry 10 devices, standalone trackers and the Iridium satellite tracking phone [Iridium Extreme handset], RockSTAR and Thuraya satellite tracking devices.
When activated by its panic button, the app instantly alerts a security centre and automatically sends covert audio recordings from a phone/iPad/Apple Watch in real time to the centre. It asks the sender to report what the problem is or, if it already knows, the centre will give advice to the user including where to go to that is safer and what else to do.
It will also advise when emergency services will respond. During an incident, the app user will typically be in two way communication, usually but not always via text, with a security centre.
Businesses can track and give advice to their staff via a secure website.
Vismo app users have been given advice or helped directly in a number of terrorist and kidnap related incidents, from Afghanistan and Iraq to Paris [during the Charlie Hebdo shootings and the related supermarket hostages situation in January 2015], and Tunisia, during the beach and hotel shootings in June 2015.
